What makes Pregalates workouts totally unique, besides the groovy name, is that they are the only trimester specific pilates for pregnancy workouts led by a pregnant instructor.
I really like that the program was filmed while the instructor Tasha (pictured above) was pregnant with her second child, so she is sharing your journey every step of the way and can relate to what you are feeling. You can also rest assured that it is not only good for you (although it may not always feel good at the time!) but also 100% baby safe.
The best part is you don’t even have to get dressed and go to the gym or studio which can sometimes be a barrier to getting started and close to impossible with a new baby – you can do all of the exercises from the comfort of your own home and yet feel like she is right there with you.
The backdrop is clean and simple. No fancy mountains or oceans (which I personally would have liked but that’s just me) but just you and the lovely Tasha who is serious about working your butt, legs and all the bits you had forgotten about and yet has a charming touch of humour that she adds along the way. She is so open and down to earth, you will feel like you could sit down and have a cup of raspberry leaf tea with her afterwards and tell her about your day.
Throughout the workouts, Tasha makes sure you pay close attention to your posture, core and pelvic floor muscles which are all very important during this time and that you are doing the exercises properly. She is also a bit like a good pilot that warns you about any bumpy (in this case ‘ouchy!’) bits before they come up –as in “this is going to hurt.” And it does – if you can get through the killer butt moves, the labour will be a breeze. (just kidding!)
Seriously though, the workouts consist of four 50 minute pilates workouts specific to each trimester of pregnancy and post-natal as well. Being fit and healthy is so important when it comes to preparing for a positive birth and start to motherhood. So chances are, you will be more birth-ready if you choose to come along for the ride with Tasha and do your Pregalates as part of your daily regime!
Even though I lead an active life and did a lot more exercise before kids, I would still class myself as a beginner having not stepped into a gym in many years. I admit I had to psych myself for probably the first time I have ‘worked out’ properly besides chasing the kids. I must say it was easy to follow and more doable than I thought, even though it certainly stretched me and made me work! I stayed with the process even in the uncomfortable bits and felt good about myself at the end with a well earned stretch. As Tasha says herself, “I’m not afraid to ‘keep it real’ either – it’s not about pretending it’s easy when it’s really not most of the time! ”
A lovely note from Tasha: “I loved making these dvds, it made me feel as if I was doing something for the pregnant community out there! I honestly hope you enjoy them and get the same benefits from them as I did putting them together!”
While I wasn’t fortunate enough to discover Pregalates during my own pregnancy, I can happily pass on these gems to you so you can get the benefits. If you are searching for a good pilates DVD program that is absolutely focused on your needs during pregnancy, then Pregalates is it!
